ABOUT
A unique print and pattern studio.
Joy of Print is a West London studio specialising in surface print design. We create designs to commission and also have our own distinctive portfolio of patterns which we share in collaboration with like-minded companies. The business is made up of a small highly experienced design team led by our founder Cath Kidston Padgham MBE. We specialise in original hand drawn patterns, inspired by traditional print with a contemporary handwriting and colour palette. Founded in 2017 our work to date has included strategy and prints for international fashion companies as well as smaller collaborations in homewares and charitable projects. We carry a small selection of our own fabrics and wallpapers on this site. For Spring '23 we have been creating artwork for Cath’s new sister company C.ATHERLEY, a brand inspired by her love of scented geraniums. Launching this March, more information can be found at c-atherley.com
Our work has a modern yet traditional style with its own unique handwriting. Our influences stem from Cath’s life long passion and knowledge of print and in particular her love of simple and clean well edited designs. References are found anywhere from antique quilts to illustrations and prints are often created from scratch. Designs are hand drawn and there is a strong emphasis on colour work with our portfolio of prints available to be custom coloured for clients. We are always interested in the marketplace and trends but our aim is to build a library of timeless and distinctive prints of our own.
Joy of Print was founded in 2017 by the designer Cath Kidston Padgham as a specialist outlet for print design. Having left her eponymous brand in 2015 and worked all her adult life Cath found she had endless time to travel and seek inspiration; the thing she had dreamt of doing all her busy working life. It didn’t take long to realise the reason she loved doing all these things was to seek inspiration for new ideas. The studio was born off the back of this with the aim of bringing talented young designers together to make a new print house with its own very personal handwriting. The studio has been busy working for clients since its inception with its portfolio available for collaborations. We also carry our own small range of fabrics and wallpapers.
Our print portfolio is available to be used in collaboration with like-minded brands across a range of products from homewares to fashion. The production and manufacture of product mainly comes from our shared partners expertise in their own fields which leaves the studio to concentrate on its strength in print design. Examples to date vary from work with Uniqlo on unique baby wear patterns to a weave project with British manufacturer Tori Murphy and a range of printed lampshades where we teamed up with the British designer Rosi de Ruig with designs from our portfolio. We have also provided print strategy for a number of brands. For an appointment in our West London studio or for any enquires please email info@joyofprint.co.uk
